Sheesham is a fast growing species and is rotated over a 6 - 10 year period. Growth rate is typically 3.7 metres per annum.
Sheesham is an erect deciduous tree belonging to the Dalbergia sissoo family, a native of India, Pakistan and Nepal, it is also known as Indian Rosewood. As a timber Sheesham is used in the finest veneers for cabinet making. Sheesham heartwood has a characteristic golden brown graining and the light sapwood has an ivory graining making it an attractive alternative to teak. It is an extremely durable timber and finishes well when polished.
