Acacia is a genus of shrubs and trees belonging to the sub family Mimosoideae of the family Fabaceae. Acacias are also known as thorn trees or wattles and are characterised by rapid growth patterns compared to other timbers. Acacia make excellent plantation timber and reach felling height within 8 - 10 years compared with teak which is rotated in cycles of 25 – 40 years. At Sheesham all our timber originates from Government managed plantations in Western Rajasthan and Punjab which are managed in sustained growth patterns. The timber is characterised by attractive grain and colour contrast and will appear to change colour under different light sources. It is a naturally resinous wood developing outstanding resistance to moisture staining.
